Welcome to the Institute of Innovation | Croeso i’r Athrofa Arloesi

Dear Friend

The idea for an Institute of Innovation – or IN2 as we now call ourselves –began to take shape when a small group of people had a vision for sharing university expertise with the region in a new system of ‘Open Innovation’.

IN2 is now a reality and the vision is seeing its first successes. For example, the flourishing Institute of Life Science is leading to the creation of an industry cluster, bringing high-value jobs and new knowledge into the region. And we are making good friends along the way. IBM, Alliance Boots and Laing O'Rourke have joined us, excited by the opportunities and willing to work with us in this new system.

There are also highly productive projects and relationships at a more local level – such as the collaborations with Brecon Coachworks and CyDen. And some that combine both, such as the outstanding turnaround achieved by Sony. In all, IN2 is currently working on nearly 30 different projects, ideas and initiatives.

What underpins all of these is the concept of Open Innovation. Universities, companies, governments – none of them can afford any longer to work in a closed environment. Multi- and indeed inter-disciplinary working are crucial to success.

In an increasingly global marketplace, it is our firm belief that one must collaborate, not compete. Or perhaps it is truer to say: collaborate in order to compete. This is our philosophy. It makes IN2 a great place to work and it’s an Institute I am proud to lead.

I do hope you enjoy your visit to our website. If you feel inspired to get in touch, please contact us.

With all good wishes | Hwyl

Marc
